About Us – Sortland Camping

Welcome to Sortland Camping, a family business with deep roots and a rich history in Sortland and Vesterålen. From our beginnings as Nattland Camping to our current operations, we have been dedicated to creating a warm and welcoming place for travelers from all over the world.

The History Behind Sortland Camping

Sortland Camping was established in its current form in 1983 when the couple Hans-Jørge and Helen-Johanne, parents of the all-rounder Erlend, took over the property. At that time, the campsite was operated by the Norwegian Automobile Association (NAF), but with Hans-Jørge and Helen-Johanne at the helm, a development journey began that has given the place its unique character. In 1984, they built 14 new cabins, which attracted many tourists during the first summer.

To meet demand and improve our guests' experience, the family built a reception building with a kiosk in 1986, and two bungalows were added that same year. In 1989, our unique motel was completed – the only motel in Vesterålen at the time, with nine rooms and a cozy TV lounge and café for guests. From 2000 to 2007, an additional 22 large cabins were built, offering an even broader range of accommodations for various types of travelers. Since then, we have continuously developed and improved the campsite to meet current needs and trends.

The People Behind the Operations

Sortland Camping is currently operated by Erlend, son of the founders Hans-Jørge and Helen-Johanne, who has been actively involved in the development and operation of the campsite since he was young. With his background and personal commitment, Erlend is known as the "handyman" around here, always ready to meet the needs of our guests, big or small.

Acting Managing Director Anan Ingebritsen has been part of Sortland Camping for over 12 years and knows all aspects of the operations, having worked on everything from cleaning and maintenance to administrative tasks. Anan is passionate about providing the best experience for our guests and has been instrumental in taking Sortland Camping forward to what it is today – a place where families, tourists, and adventurers alike can find a home while traveling.
